Solo practitioner operating The Shelton Law Firm since 1997. Practiced real estate, worker's compensation, personal injury, traffic, and estate planning law.
Guardian ad Litem
Served as Guardian ad Litem for many foster children affected by abuse and neglect. Former Chairman & board member of Lake Area Big Brothers / Big Sisters.
Academic Excellence
School of the Osage graduate (Class of '82). Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from CMSU, and Juris Doctor (Law) degree from University of Missouri-Columbia in 1990.
True Work Ethic
Operated Zippy's Ziplines with his wife, and worked historic lake jobs including tour guide at Indian Burial Cave, usher/tech at Ozark Opry, and ride operator at Two Bit Town.

Grown in the Brumley Mercantile
Kevin Shelton was born at the Missouri Baptist Children’s Home in St. Louis and adopted two weeks later by Glen and Mary Jo Shelton of Brumley, Missouri. Glen and Mary Jo operated the Brumley Mercantile—often called Shelton’s General Store—for almost 50 years. They were pillars of their community: Glen formed the Brumley Fire Protection District, the Brumley Lion’s Club, and Mary Jo was active at the Brumley Baptist Church. Kevin proudly keeps the key to the "city" of Brumley hanging in his living room, representing a 150-year family history in Miller County.
Working in the store starting at age five, Kevin learned real-world lessons of work ethic. He stocked shelves with messy ink stampers and threw sacks of feed next to his father, Glen. But most importantly, the store served as a sanctuary. Glen and Mary Jo extended credit to feed families when they fell on hard times. The store was open six days a week, but Glen would never turn someone away on a Sunday if they needed formula for a baby, medicine for a cow, or hardware for an unexpected fix.

A Working History on the Water
Kevin’s work history is tied directly to the history of the Lake of the Ozarks strip and surrounding local businesses. He worked as a tour guide at Indian Burial Cave under Lee Mace, and served as an usher and lighting technician at the legendary Ozark Opry. He operated rides at the Fort of the Osage amusement park, cooked at Howard Johnsons, and worked the water slide and bumper boats at Two Bit Town.
From 2012 to 2020, Kevin and his wife designed, built, and operated Zippy’s Ziplines at the end of W-15. "That was definitely some of the hardest, yet most rewarding work, and I learned a lot of valuable skills at every business," Kevin recalls. Additionally, as an avid car enthusiast, Kevin spent his life overhauling engines, doing bodywork, and doing body paint—though he jokingly admits that automatic transmissions still operate on magic.
Building Futures and Log Cabins
Kevin attended School of the Osage from Kindergarten through high school graduation in 1982. He went on to Central Missouri State University (CMSU) in Warrensburg, earning his degree in Criminal Justice Administration. Eager to represent the citizens of his home state, he attended the University of Missouri Law School and obtained his Juris Doctor degree in 1990.
During his law school years, Kevin demonstrated the grit that defines him. He purchased a small cabin on the Northshore of the Lake in 1988. For his final two years of law school, he commuted almost 150 miles a day, all while transforming that cabin into a 2,000 square foot home by hand—with the occasional help of a few friends working for burgers and beer.
A Legal Career for the People
While in law school, Kevin secured a role with a single-attorney firm in Osage Beach, writing appellate briefs and handling traffic tickets. In 1992, he became a full partner at Bridges, Cisar & Shelton. In 1997, he established a solo practice, The Shelton Law Firm, which he operates to this day, bringing his total legal practice span to over 35 years.
As a solo attorney, Kevin has represented everyday citizens in personal injury, worker's compensation, real estate law, traffic law, estate planning, and non-violent criminal cases. Crucially, Kevin spent years acting as Guardian ad Litem for children in foster care due to abuse and neglect. This deep experience serving vulnerable youth led him to serve on the board and as Chairman for Lake Area Big Brothers / Big Sisters for several years.
